Hair loss. It’s every young man’s nightmare. Image is rudimental in our early years, so the thought of hair loss doesn’t bare thinking about for the young metrosexual male. We put in our styling products, caking our hair with wax, gel and products before emerging from a smokescreen of hairspray. All this in the aim of impressing and looking good, as we look on with sympathy to our elderly counterparts with their unconvincing comb overs and their eggs in nests. “I hope that never happens to me” you think to yourself. “I’d wear a hat if that happened to me. Or I’d just shave it off.”
However, as the years pass, and we shoot into our late twenties and earlier thirties, we notice our hair thinning, and our forehead growing ever more prominent. We hear about hair transplants but this is only for celebrities with deep pockets, right? It must be expensive!
Hair loss solution is becoming more and more accessible for all. In fact, hair loss treatment figures are at an all time high, proving more popular than ever with males aged 24-46. After all, it isn’t just women who should take care of themselves right? Bamboo Aesthetics offers affordable hair loss treatment, so your worst fears no longer need to be realised.
But what exactly causes us to lose hair? What are we doing that causes our hair to thin? There are many housewife tales over what pushes you forward on the road to baldness, but which myths actually have the slightest bit of truth behind them? To debunk some of these legends and help you search for the truth, we list our 7 biggest myths and whether or not you should be listening to them.
1. Hair loss runs in the family
It’s the most common myth regarding hair loss. You’ll lose your hair if your father did. However, analysing our family tree doesn’t offer us a sure fire answer. Hair loss is polygenetic, meaning a random assortment of genes will decide your fate. While this offers us a general indication on whether we’ll still have hair to whoosh in our later years, nothing is set and stone. Unfortunately, you could be the one to buck the trend!
2. Using too many hair products causes hair loss
We often hear that using gel, wax and hairspray causes hair loss at a later age. This is just absolutely not true. So fear not! Equally, washing hair frequently doesn’t cause your hair to thin either. Shampooing the hair just cleanses the scalp, affecting the root in no shape or form. Any hairs found around the bath or shower basin are probably hairs at the end of the cycle which have already come loose from the scalp.
3. Stress and trauma causes your hair to fall out
Traumatic events and stress can accelerate hair loss. However, such events wouldn’t cause you to lose any hair you wouldn’t have lost at some point anyway, according to Hitzig. Interestingly, side effects of trauma and stress, such as weight gain and loss will however have a knock on effect on your chances of hair loss.
4. Wearing a hat causes hair loss
We’re surprised at just how many people believe this one. Fans of beanies and top hats fear not! Wearing a hat has no impact on your chances of hair loss. There is no scientific research to show that donning a hat will cause hair loss at all. The hat would need to be tight enough to cut off circulation to the hair follicles.
5. Hair thinning and hair loss only happen with age
As with grey hair, it is the common belief to many that hair thinning and hair loss only happens in your later years. However, hair loss treatment wouldn’t be at such an all-time high with young men if this was the case! Unfortunately, you’re never too young to start losing hair. Genetics are once again to blame here, and hair can start falling out as early as your teen years! Hair loss at such an early age is nothing to worry about health wise, it’s just a matter of genetics. However, as hair loss is progressive, if you have noticed it already and are starting to worry, the sooner you treat it the better.
6. Hair dye can cause hair loss
This is an interesting one. Regular use of hair products such as dyes do not cause hair loss. Think of hair loss as predetermined, and regardless of what those prone to hair loss do, the end result will always be the same. However, hair dye contains chemicals which if excessively overused can result in damage to hair follicles or your scalp. This can accelerate hair loss. This is common with low grade dyes and therefore we recommend staying clear from low grade dyes. Similarly, chemical straightening can burn the scalp, having similar effects.
7. Hair loss treatment is expensive
Science has advanced so much to a point that we no longer have to live with hair loss. Here at Bamboo Aesthetics, we offer REVITACARE HAIRCARE®, a formula developed by French experts as a solution to slow growth, thinning hair, dryness and hair loss. The formula is applied to the scalp and hydrates it, reducing hair loss and stimulating hair growth. This is a much cheaper solution than a hair transplant which is commonly linked to being a pricey celebrity fix. By opting for hair loss treatment at Bamboo Aesthetics, you can regain your youth and wipe away any insecurities at an affordable price.
