For years now the ability to reduce wrinkles has been alive. However, with various thoughts and opinions spread throughout the media many people want to understand more about this miraculous treatment and to what extent anti-wrinkle injections truly can work to reduce wrinkles.
Okay, so it’s not so much a secret anymore. Anti-wrinkle injections are now very available to the masses and that is not by any chance. This method of wrinkle reduction works so well that it is now one of the most commonly requested cosmetic treatments with around six million patients receiving treatment each year. But how exactly does it work?
The protein is injected into the muscle responsible for the wrinkle. Only a very small dosage of the protein is injected. The anti-wrinkle solution then works into the muscle and stops the nerve cells from sending out signals thereby paralysing the muscle. This enables the muscle to relax more and let go of the tension causing the wrinkles to appear.
For muscles to be able to contract, the nerve cells release a special chemical messenger (a neurotransmitter) called acetylcholine. This is released at the tiny space where the nerve meets the start of the muscle cells. This acetylcholine then binds itself across the muscle cells which then gives it the instruction to either contract or extend. When you receive a dose of the anti-wrinkle substance, acetylcholine is actually prevented from being released. This ultimately stops the signal arriving at the muscle and so it neither contracts nor extends.
And then we have lift off – wrinkles gone!
Anti-wrinkle injections are not only useful to reduce wrinkles in the short term. There are also long term benefits. If you choose to have anti-wrinkle injections and then stop, your wrinkles will come back as the muscles turn back on. However, they will be less prevalent than they used to be. Hence, the positive effects of anti-wrinkle injections can actually persist to an extent in the long term.
In relation to the method that anti-wrinkle injections use to work there is some follow on in the long term. As you stop receiving the injections, the muscles will awaken and start working again. This will mean that the muscles will contract causing the wrinkles to re-appear. However, the break that your muscles will have received mean that they have less strength and the habit of not frowning and such will still stay with you to an extent. All of this means that, although your wrinkles will still come back, they will do so to a much less extent than before you had the treatment.
Anna was a typical case. She had started to notice wrinkles appearing on her face and it hit her confidence badly. Upon asking her what methods she had tried before going for anti-wrinkle injections she said, ‘I tried all the creams going, nothing worked properly… sure some of the moisturisers helped for a day or so but after that i could just see the wrinkles again’. Like many, Anna knew that anti-wrinkle injections would end up being the best options for her.
She visited the practice and went through a few sets of treatments over the following few years. ‘The results were amazing really. They pretty much instantly removed my wrinkles and I felt great but I didn’t want to be having anti-wrinkle injections forever, I couldn’t really afford it to be honest’, said Anna as she thought back to a few years prior in the midst of her anti-wrinkle venture.
She, shortly after decided to stop receiving the injections. Were you at all worried about stopping them? I asked. ‘Well… no, just, I knew the wrinkles would come back and I didn’t like the idea of that but I knew that it was inevitable. The anti-wrinkle injections are not really meant to be a long term solution and I knew that from the start’, she smiled. After stopping the treatment the wrinkles did start to come back. However, Anna noticed that they were much less pronounced than she had remembered. The break that the muscles had been given did have some follow on effect and this meant that Anna still had years knocked off her age thanks to the anti-wrinkle injections she had received in the few years prior!
