There’s something about Pride every year that puts a smile on my face. I’ve been to the Pride Cymru celebrations a handful of times over the past few years and it never disappoints. I’ve been with straight friends and gay friends, and the one thing I notice the most is that regardless who you go with, you’ll always have a good time. There’s something for everyone on the day, whether it’s the parade, the field or the after party. The live stage, cabaret and rave tent offer the chance to be entertained, while the stalls offer great merchandise and food. The best bit about Pride however, is the chance to make new friends.
Regardless of what you identify as or what your interests or backgrounds are, you can join with thousands other on this field and just celebrate being who you are. With so much hatred all over the news, and disappointment for many with the current state of politics, it’s refreshing to see so many people remembering the real point of what really matters – to have a good time. I’m certain that not everyone on that field voted the same way in the referendum, and I’m sure not all have the same interests, beliefs and backgrounds, yet colour, glitter and joy united every one that day – like nothing else in the world really mattered.
This year, Bamboo Aesthetics, cosmetic clinic in Cardiff, had the chance to attend the event and occupy a stall on the field. We thought it would be a great way to meet lots of you and step away from the practice and enjoy the sunshine. What a beautiful day it was too. I jumped at the chance to help out at the stall, thinking that it would be great to experience the hugely popular event from a different perspective.
From the very first minute myself and Georgia, a dental nurse at Bamboo Dental arrived at the field, we were greeted by other stall holders. They weren’t just checking out the competition – they were genuinely coming to welcome us and say hello. Many of the stall holders attend the event every year, so when they noticed we were new to the Mardi Gras family we were welcomed with open arms. We had feared that the stalls might have been competitive, but they varied from traders to charities to universities, each offering something different.
One woman who greeted us told us about the back story of Pride Cymru and commented on how crazy it was that the event had evolved so much over the years. This was a theme that I noticed as the day progressed. The attendee count was much higher than in the years I’d been before. As the attendees flocked to the field in their thousands, I was overwhelmed by the wide age range of party goers. Families had stopped by the stall for a selfie with our special #smilewithpride selfie frame. It was a joy to see parents bringing their children to an event from such an early age. Encouraging pride, acceptance and love to the next generation from such an early age, at a time where it’s needed more than ever, was the greatest pleasure to witness. Many preteens also stopped by the stall for a photo. Armed with rainbow wristbands, rainbow face paint and stickers galore, it was a pleasure to see young people embracing their identity rather than being ashamed of it. The event wasn’t just for the young whippersnappers though. People of all ages were there and myself and Georgia talked to all sorts of characters on the day. Everyone was really friendly, we saw no drama or fights, and the pride and happiness of everyone on the field was truly infectious.
What we were overwhelmed by was how an event like this gives so much to so many people. We saw same sex couples having the confidence to hold hands, hug, dance and celebrate without fear of judgement. It highlighted to us why this event is still so important.
The event gave the perfect opportunity to remind not only Cardiff, but the world that love will always win.
Over the course of the day, the Bamboo team handed out stickers and took photographs. We weren’t there to sell anything, we weren’t there to offer consultations, but to promote seld worth and confidence.
At Bamboo Aesthetics our main goal is to promote confidence, which is why we offer treatments that can help people and give them that confidence boost they need. It’s not just the youthful look that our treatments offer that change lives, but the confidence it brings with it. We get told from time to time that people shouldn’t have to change the way they look to feel more confident. We absolutely agree. We see the beauty in everyone. However, if we can offer something to our patients in need of a confidence boost which will change their lives, we of course will. We spoke to a number of individuals on the day who were interested in our treatments and the one question many asked was “Do you think I need this done?” Our response was “Would you be happier if you had it done?” After all, that’s what our cosmetic clinic in Cardiff is for. Our expert practitioners can offer you their professional opinion on ways to offer a more youthful appearance, but at the end of the day it’s down to you to decide. Would the treatment make you happier? Would the treatment give you that confidence you’ve always craved? Do your insecurities hold you back? If the answer is yes, Bamboo Aesthetics, cosmetic clinic in Cardiff is there to help.
