Dermal Fillers: A Family Affair

Dermal fillers are without doubt one of our most popular treatments at Bamboo Aesthetics. Patients of both genders and all ages opt for the treatment which helps turn back the years. One particular case sticks in our minds when we think about dermal fillers. A mother and daughter from Splott were both interested in having dermal fillers, but wouldn’t have it done unless they both did. Dr. Dan had double the challenge to convince both ladies to opt for the treatment – but did he succeed? Daughter Lyndsey recalls her and mother Janet’s Bamboo story below.

My mother is a hairdresser and I do a fashion degree, so it’s fair to say both of us are interested in image. My mother always looks flawless. Her hair and make-up are immaculate and her fashion sense is spot on. I think she’s the most beautiful person on the inside and on the outside. However, as I grew up I saw her becoming more and more self-conscious. She never used to be like that – or maybe I just didn’t notice how self-conscious she is until I was old enough to realise.

Myself on the other hand, from an early age have always been interested in beauty. I was never interested in cosmetic surgery, more so make up and clothes. However, when I discovered about cosmetic treatments that didn’t involve surgery, I started to become interested in all that too. Of course I’d heard of anti-wrinkle treatment but I didn’t realise clinics offered it so cheaply and locally. And of course, when I discovered there were clinics on my doorstep, I looked into other non-invasive treatments available. My mother has never had cosmetic surgery, nor was she interested in  any alternative treatment such as the ones Bamboo Aesthetics offer… until we made a pact.

The more I researched into alternative treatments to cosmetic surgery, the more interested I became. However, I was absolutely terrified. I don’t like needles at all. I’m the person that faints at the thought of blood tests. I’m a mess honestly. I was interested in either anti-wrinkle treatment or dermal fillers in Cardiff. I heard that the needles used during these treatments are very fine and as a result you couldn’t really feel them and there would be no scarring. Anyway, I thought the needle would be a small price to pay for the impressive results you see.

I was interested in dermal fillers in  Cardiff for plumper skin. I’m not saying I needed dermal fillers, but as I blog about fashion and beauty, I wanted to try fillers for myself. I did originally want fillers in just my cheeks but Dr. Dan recommended beautification of the whole face during my free consultation. I thought “Should I be offended? He’s telling me I need it all over!” But this wasn’t the case. He was telling me that sometimes fillers in isolated areas can make the rest of the face look strange. I suppose it’s a bit like putting a nice new sofa in an old fashioned living room. I was a bit nervous because I hadn’t expected to be jabbed with a needle all over my face.

So where does my mother fit into all this? I hear you ask. Well I’d been researching the treatment for quite a while. We were watching Celebrity Big Brother launch night and my mother commented on Chloe Kahn’s lips. She said she’d like fuller lips but not like Chloe Kahn! She then saw Samantha Fox and commented on how attractive she looked for her age. I thought it was the perfect time to bring up my idea. I told her I wanted to try some beauty treatments for research purposes for my blog. My mother told me not to go around messing with my face but I explained I only wanted a subtle change. She seemed cool with this as long as I didn’t get obsessed as some people seem to do. She said herself she would like a bit of anti-wrinkle treatment or dermal fillers to give her skin a more youthful look. We both told each other that one and other didn’t need any treatments but I think the conversation had triggered excitement in both of us. We both said we’d give it a go as you only live once.

I was scared she’d change her mind in the morning as she’d had a glass of wine, but she didn’t. I booked her and myself in for a free consultation with Dr. Dan. As I said above, Dr. Dan recommended beautification of the face for me. My mother was interested in lip fillers. Dr. Dan said he didn’t watch Big Brother but promised she wouldn’t look like a celebrity wannabe when she walked out the practice! She told him she wanted a subtle change that others wouldn’t notice but she would. He said he understood and with us both reassured over our treatments, he booked us in for our appointments.

My mother is a strong and brave woman. She wasn’t nervous at all. She’s been in and out of hospitals all her life anyway. So when it came to the treatment, she was in and out, no worries. For me, I was very nervous. Luckily, Dr Dan and his award winning team are very good with nervous patients. A lot of the staff also do dentistry so they’re used to nervous patients. Dr. Dan was really good with me. He told me to close my eyes and distracted me with funny stories. To be honest, I couldn’t really feel much of it.

When finished, we both saw the results immediately. We both had a bit of swelling but that was gone in 24 hours. Cosmetic treatments are wonderful and I recommend them to anyone who’s looking for an alternative to scary surgery. Whether you’re my age or my mother’s – why not go for it! You won’t be disappointed.
