Lip Injections: What makes a good candidate

Lip Fillers (or lip injections) are fast becoming one of our most popular treatments at Bamboo Aesthetics. Like with any treatment, our patients and potential patients have many questions before opting for lip fillers. Are Lip injections safe? Will I benefit from fillers? Am I an eligible for fillers or am I too old?

First thing’s first – there is no upper age limit for treatments. Although lip injections are most popular with those in their 20’s and 30’s, any one of any age can benefit from the lip injections. We have offered fillers to people of all ages and all are just as happy with the results. After all, the aim on any treatment is to improve confidence – and insecurities effect all of us.

Interestingly, older candidates are quite often better candidates for lip fillers as the lips tend to lose volume as we grow older. Lips lose collagen as we age resulting in thinner lips. This process doesn’t discriminate either – both men and women lose collagen in the lips as they age. That means that lip injections are not only perfect for the older candidate – but also for women AND men.

Am I too old for lip injections?

At Bamboo Aesthetics, we understand why an older candidate may be nervous about undertaking cosmetic treatments.  What puts a lot of people off the idea of cosmetic treatments is the fear of an unnatural result. At Bamboo Aesthetics, we only offer non surgical treatments, meaning less down time and more natural, less done results. The difference we make is entirely down to you. Just how subtle your rejuvenation is, is completely down to you. During a free consultation with one of our expert practitioners, you will discuss open and honestly what you wish to achieve and find out what is achievable by the practitioner.

Older candidates interested in lip injections have often told us that they want an effective rejuvenation without looking like someone older who’s trying to look younger. We completely understand the need and desire for a subtle rejuvenation and work with you to assure we give you the treatment you’re exactly after.

Just how much lip filler you wish to be injected is up to you. We normally offer 1ml or 2ml depending on the patient’s wishes or the recommendation of the practitioner. “I’d always had quite thin lips. Even when I was younger, I had thin lips. My husband told me to never worry about them as he loved them, but you do. You have your insecurities – things you wish to change. My lips were my insecurities. My sons would joke about me having no top lip in photographs. They were jokes, not intended to be hurtful. I suppose they were quite funny jokes but still at my expense! In any case, I’d always said I wish I had bigger lips and blamed my mother for my genes.

I’d started getting cosmetic dentistry work next door at Bamboo Dental. I’d gone private and was in the new practice. I was really impressed by Dr. Dan’s work. I saw posters up for botox and lip fillers and was interested. Even then though, you see something like that and think – I’d like it done but I probably never would. Natalie the practice manager was talking to me as I was paying for my treatment one day and asked if I’d ever have any facial aesthetics work done. I told her I wouldn’t want anyone messing with my face – injecting god knows what in! I told her that I’d always wanted thicker lips but couldn’t imagine having filler in them.

Natalie was telling me about how she’d had a couple of treatments done. She had had lip fillers and I admit I was a bit envious. She told me to come along to a free consultation just to hear Dr. Dan talk about the treatment a bit. I was really hesitant – part of me wanted to have the treatment but I thought I might end up looking silly. I thought a little bit wouldn’t hurt – even if it wasn’t that noticeable.  I could always tell Dr. Dan that I didn’t want too much filler.

Are Lip Injections safe?

Two weeks later, I came back for my free consultation. I told Dr. Dan that I feared I was too old for lip injections. I didn’t want to look like some old woman trying to look younger with silly big lips. He laughed and assured me I wouldn’t. He said everyone was trying lip fillers today and he hadn’t met one person unimpressed with the results. I saw some before and afters and I must say I was impressed with the results. There were one or two people around my age who had had lip fillers and they didn’t look too bad. In fact I thought that if Dr. Dan could give the same amount of filler in my lips as the lady in the before and afters I’d be more than happy.

A few days later, after the swelling had settled down, I looked in the mirror and couldn’t believe the results. I finally had a top lip again! I didn’t look silly either. It was a natural looking result and one that – dare I say – made me look younger! My family were impressed with the result, as were my friends! I’ve recently come back in the practice to get a top up and I’ll continue to do so.
